Think about it: we put diapers in plastic containers that absorb, rather than contain all of those nasty diaper smells. Ubbi doesn't do that. Unlike other diaper pails, this one is made of powder-coated steel and has rubber seals to keep those smells in the can instead of spreading it around the room.

Other than some of the top pieces being plastic, most of the can IS metal. Mine was dented upon receiving it, but a spoon pushed it out and it's in a spot that no one will see.I like the large unobstructed opening that has a sliding door. You just slide it back, plop the diaper in and slide it forward. It has a silicon seal which keeps the bad stuff inside.Warning! Do NOT let the bag get too full. With the top being slightly smaller than the rest of the can, the bag can get caught when removing, if you let it fill up too much.Overall, it's a pricy can, but it's keeping the room from smelling like poo 24/7 and THAT for me is HUGE! We replaced an Arm & Hammer can with this. The A&H works OK for young babies, but NOT toddlers diapers.I gave it 4 stars for the bag extraction issue. NOT for the dent. THAT is a shipping issue not related to the design.Update: If this can has one failure, it'd be that when you open the lid to drop the diaper in, the smell comes out in FULL FORCE. We have started pouring baking soda in the can to help which it does, but it still stinks pretty badly. We have a bottle of Febreeze near by that we use before leaving the room... lol

I was worried about spending the extra money for this pail after reading the 1 star review, but I couldn't bear the smell from our plastic pail any longer so I figured it was worth a try. It was either this or I would have to run downstairs to the trash every time I changed a diaper.Also I read about the money savings buying regular kitchen trash bags vs. the bags I was having to buy now (which by the way are ridiculously expensive. On Amazon 30 bags cost 16-20 bucks but we're buying 50 Glad scented kitchen bags for 9 bucks. So in the end the Ubbi will probably save us money?). I also thought about buying a steel trash can but I looked on Amazon and a decent one cost about 50 bucks and none of these have the rubber seals that the Ubbi claimed to hold in the stink.Anyways to the part you care about, we're 4 weeks in now with the Ubbi and all is well in poopville. My daughter's room no longer has a lingering port-a-potty stench and I'm not running up and down the stairs all day long.I think I understand why the person who gave it 1 star was complaining, it's true that the pail does stink when you open the sliding door to put a diaper in but it's no worse that the pail we had before (which actually I thought was worse because we got the stink and I had to push the diaper in through a tight hole which was disgusting with the messing poops. You know what I mean when you get it on the finger tips, ugh). Also, I've got the thing down to a science. I wrap the poop in the diaper and make as tight of a ball as possible. Sit it on the top of the Ubbi pail until I'm completely done changing my daughter. Then after I'm completely done I set my daughter down take the diaper and quickly slide open the lid, drop the diaper and slide it closed. Then we head out of the room for a few minutes and presto minimal stink. (by the way i figured this trick out with my old pail first).You can expect a nice stinky session when you change the bag also. But again it's pretty much the same as my old pail, maybe a bit more of a hassle but not much. I take the pail into our hallway bathroom to do this since it has ventilation.Overall, I think I'm biased in giving this thing 5 stars because we went through a brutal 2 weeks with our old pail before we through it out. All was good with that pail until my daughter started eating solids and the poops started really stinking. We tried to make it work for 2 weeks but then couldn't take it any longer. So the Ubbi get 5 stars for saving me the hassle of running up and down the stairs 2-3 times a day.Oh and my wife likes the way it looks much better than the our old pail too which by the way was the one with baking soda (not sure we're supposed to mention other products in reviews??)

I contacted Ubbi's customer service after reading the many comments about the tearing bag issue. They said an updated design that features new bag holders (with smooth edges) would be available in January. However, the woman I corresponded with offered to mail me one of the new holders if I wanted to go ahead and place my order for the current model. So I placed my order. I'm still waiting on both the pail and the bag holder to arrive. I'll update this once I receive them. However, so far I'm very impressed with their customer service.
